New presidents named at UMPI, UMF
The University of Maine System has appointed new presidents at its campuses in Farmington and Presque Isle. Kathryn Foster, a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., will lead UMF, while Linda Schott, dean of the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., will be the new president at UMPI.
The UMS Board of Trustees' executive committee yesterday approved the appointments, according to a press release. The new presidents begin their jobs July 1 and will each receive a salary of $160,000. At Brookings, Foster is researching the governance of cross-state regions. Most recently, she served as director of the UB Regional Institute, a research and policy center. She replaces Theo Kalikow, who announced last year that she is stepping down at the end of June.
Schott has served as dean at Fort Lewis College since 2008. She succeeds Donald Zillman, who has served as UMPI's president since 2006. Last year, he announced that he would step down as president and return to his position as a tenured professor of law at the University of Maine School of Law in Portland.
