Newsworthy people and performances

New hires

The Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership in Portland hired Judiann Ferretti Smith as executive director. Smith was previously with Spurwink.

The New England Real Estate Co. in Camden hired Victoria Condon as a broker. Condon was previously with Jaret & Cohn Real Estate.

Husson University in Bangor named Rhonda A. Waskiewicz as dean of the College of Health and Education. Previously, she served as interim dean at the School of Education at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. She will oversee curricula, faculty, budgets and strategic planning.

Community Credit Union in Lewiston hired Cheyenne Davis as a member representative.

The city of Portland hired Gina Tapp as director of human resources. Tapp was previously the director of human resources for Samaritan Health Services in Lincoln City and Newport, Ore.

Littler, a national employment and labor law practice representing management, hired Eric Uhl as a shareholder at its Portland office. Uhl was formerly a partner with Fisher & Phillips.

Maine Maritime Museum in Bath hired Peggy Schick as director of development. Schick was previously the director of annual giving at the University of Southern Maine.

GrowSmart Maine in Portland hired Andrew Zarro as development director.

Target Marketing Maine, a marketing company in Rockland, hired Jennifer White as a sales representative for the central Maine area.

Gelato Fiasco, a gelato and sorbetto company in Brunswick, hired Lila Wilmerding as director of perfection development.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, hired Christopher Devlin as a shareholder in the firm's business law practice group. Devlin was previously managing counsel at Unum Group.

Penobscot Community Health Care in Bangor hired Christine Finn-McLaughlin as CFO. Finn-McLaughlin was previously CFO of Millinocket Regional Hospital.

Golden Pond Wealth Management in Waterville hired Kelly Huff as an administrative assistant. Huff was previously with the U.S. Postal Service.

The AARP Maine State office in Portland hired Amy Regan Gallant as associate state director for advocacy and outreach.

Skelton, Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, announced that Jon Plourde joined the firm's litigation practice.

Clark Insurance in Portland hired Christopher Joy as director of employee benefits services.

EnviroVantage, an environmental and specialty services contractor in Westbrook, hired Walk Lufkin, Nicholas Morse and Mathew Fitzpatrick as estimators.

The County Federal Credit Union in Caribou hired Mark King as vice president of lending.

Spectrum Medical Group in South Portland hired Erik Goltzer as chief information officer, Claire Beaulieu as director of purchasing and facilities, Heidi Bergeron as human resources director and Laurie Smith as benefits and compensation manager.

J. Edward Knight Insurance in Boothbay Harbor hired Clay Adams. Adams will work out of the firm's Bath office.

The Mitchell Institute in Portland hired Kimberly Ma Gustafson as scholarship director. Gustafson was previously an associate director at the Bates Career Development Center.

WBRC Architects • Engineers in Bangor hired Architect Jocelyn Hoppe Boothe. Most recently, Boothe was a senior designer at RTKL Associates in Washington, D.C.

Acadia Hospital in Bangor hired Scott Oxley as vice president and COO for the hospital and Acadia Healthcare. Most recently, Oxley served as president of Affiliated Healthcare Systems.

cPort Credit Union in Portland hired Christian Van Dyck joined as director of compliance and audit. Van Dyck was most recently the attorney for the Maine Bureau of Financial Institutions.

GWI, an Internet services provider in Biddeford, hired Tom Kinney as chief revenue officer. Kinney was previously a division president for Time Warner Cable.

Promotions

Spectrum Medical Group in South Portland promoted Daniel Landry to full-time president and chairman of the board. Landry, a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist, had served in both positions on a part-time basis since 2009 while maintaining his clinical practice.

FairPoint Communications Inc., a communications provider in Portland, promoted Karen Mead to senior vice president, external relations and community high-speed Internet development. Mead was most recently senior vice president, operations and engineering for New Hampshire.

The board of directors at Clark Insurance in Portland promoted Lee Ramsdell to senior vice president. Ramsdell also serves as corporate secretary.

Norton Financial Services in Cumberland Foreside promoted Kaili Thorp to marketing specialist. Thorp was previously group benefits marketing assistant.

Bath Savings Institution in Bath promoted Rebecca Chandler to assistant vice president retail lending and Linda Anderson to vice president, branch manager in Boothbay. Chandler was previously retail lender in Yarmouth and Anderson was a manager in Boothbay Harbor.

Appointments

Jeffrey Messer, president of Messer Truck Equipment in Westbrook, was elected the 51st president of The Association for the Work Truck Industry.

The Maine GeoLibrary board of directors elected Jon Giles as chairman of the board. Giles is GIS coordinator and surveyor at Sebago Technics in South Portland.

The University of New England in Biddeford added Mary Herman, Gary Locarno and Gloria Pinza to its board of trustees. Herman is founder and principal of Mary J. Herman Consulting LLC, Locarno is owner of GML Associates and Pinza is a business and intellectual property attorney and the managing partner of Pierce Atwood LLP.

Achievements

Isaacson & Raymond, a law firm in Lewiston, said that Jason Dionne received the Martindale-Hubbell Client Distinction Award, presented to attorneys who consistently receive high scores on client reviews.

Burns & McDonnell, an engineering firm in Portland, was listed No. 15 on the 2015 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list, marking the firm's fifth year on the list.

Mercedes-Benz USA presented its Best of the Best award for 2014 to Mercedes-Benz at Quirk Auto Park in Bangor for being in the top 15% of its retail network and demonstrating performance in various areas of business.

The Small Business Administration announced that Bangor Savings Bank was its top lender in Maine in 2014, providing $9.34 million in loans to 87 new or existing businesses.

The Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Maine offices recently recognized its top agents, including Bryce Hamilton and Jane and Garry Smith, Portland; Leo Bourgeault, Saco; and Betsy Ames-Fitzgerald, Kennebunkport, for total units sold and adjusted gross commission earned. In addition, Cathy Thibeault and Dari Hurley, Brunswick, were recognized for total units sold and Jennifer DeSena, Cape Elizabeth, for adjusted gross commission.

Woodard & Curran, an engineering, science and operations company in Portland, won an Environmental Business Journal award for Business Achievement in the Large Firm category. The national firm was recognized for revenue growth of approximately 16% to $166 million in 2014.

The Maine Crafts Association named Rebecca Goodale, a book artist in Freeport, and Sam Shaw, a jeweler in Northeast Harbor, as the 2015 recipients of the MCA Master Craft Artist Award.

Camden Hills Realty announced that Jean Brown earned her broker's license after completing the state licensing requirements.

The M&A Advisor announced that Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, was named a winner for the Distressed M&A Deal of the Year (between $10 million and $25 million) at its annual Turnaround Awards. The firm was recognized for its handling of the sale of the assets of Montreal Maine & Atlantic Railway and its Canadian subsidiary.

Graham Shimmield, executive director of Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay, was the recipient of the Society for Underwater Technology's President's Award 2014. The award is given annually to a member of the international ocean community who advances understanding of the underwater environment.

Loranger Door and Window in South Portland won a 2014 Andersen Windows Award for outstanding sales achievement.

Unity College recruitment publications were recognized with a gold award at the Higher Education Marketing Report's 30th annual Educational Advertising Awards. The college also received a gold award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, District 1, for its “Unity is Different” video series.

The city of Portland announced that the Maine Dental Association presented Kathy Martin and Vaneesa Woodward with its Spotlight on Dentistry Award, recognizing their work to advance oral health care in Maine. Martin is the program coordinator for the city's Children's Oral Health Program while Woodward is a Community Health Promotion Specialist.

The Maine Freedom of Information Coalition in Augusta announced Scott Dolan was the recipient of its 2015 Maine Sunshine Award. Dolan covers state and federal courts for the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram.

Acadia Hospital in Bangor announced Brent Scobie completed his doctoral degree in disability studies at the University of Maine. Scobie is director of operational and clinical analytics at the hospital.

Northern Outdoors, a snowmobiling and rafting adventure resort in West Forks, won the Governor's Commitment to Innovation and Creativity award and the Appalachian Mountain Club's Maine Woods Initiative was recognized with a Leadership and Growth award at the 2015 Maine Governor's Conference on Tourism.

SFX America, a fulfillment, printing and mailing company in Portland, earned the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program Award from the Maine Department of Labor in recognition of its safety achievement program.

Michael Pierce, an independent financial advisor affiliated with Commonwealth Financial Network and president of Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden, achieved Commonwealth Leaders status for 2015.
