New hires

Creative Office Pavilion, an office furniture dealer in Portland, recently hired Julie Kilborne as design manager, Cindy Morrical as interior designer and Russell Lee as project executive.

Rudman Winchell, Counselors at Law in Bangor recently hired Michael Dostie and Allison Economy as attorneys. Dostie most recently served as a policy writer for the Department of Health and Human Services while Economy practiced with Stites & Harbison PLLC in Nashville.

Camden National Bank recently hired Leah Peabody as a mortgage loan officer.

Androscoggin Bank recently hired Jeremy Deering as a vice president of commercial lending working from the bank's business development office in Scarborough and Ben Chubbuck as assistant vice president and commercial loan officer for the Brunswick region. Deering was previously a commercial lender at Sanford Institution for Savings while Chubbuck was previously with Bangor Savings Bank.

The University of Maine at Fort Kent recently hired Robert Dixon as interim vice president for academic affairs. Dixon has more than four decades of experience and previously served as a provost, vice president, dean, department chair and professor, and as a director of a private sector engineering firm.

Fluid Imaging Technologies, a laboratory instrumentation manufacturer in Scarborough, recently hired Michael Horgan as product marketing manager and Brandon Rieff as aquatic market sales manager/applications engineer. Horgan was previously product manager at Brooks Automation in Boston and Rieff was most recently with Nortek in Boston.

The Land for Maine's Future Program in Augusta recently hired Ed Meadows as its director. Meadows had served as acting director since November 2012.

The board of directors of Junior Achievement of Maine recently hired Steve Mortimer as president. Mortimer has more than 25 years of senior executive experience in for- and not-for-profit organizations.

Kennebunk Savings recently hired Rich Goodenough as vice president, middle market lender, commercial lending in the bank's York location. Goodenough has 25 years of banking experience.

Eastern Maine Development Corp. in Bangor recently hired Kent Quiet as a business development specialist. Quiet has nearly 20 years of experience in sales and business development.

Bedard Pharmacy & Medical Supplies in Auburn recently hired Anne Ajayi as supervisor of transitions in the company's women's health and cancer care products division.

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, recently hired James Christon as an associate. Christon, previously with a law firm in New Hampshire, will practice business law from the firm's Concord, N.H., office.

WCSH 6 in Portland recently hired Micah Malloy as local sales manager and Duane Becker as executive producer. Malloy was previously local sales manager in central and coastal Maine with Time Warner Cable while Becker was previously with WTHR in Indianapolis.

Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce recently hired Donald Porter as office manager. Porter was previously president and CEO of the Retail Merchants Association in Tidewater, Va.

Central Maine Power Co. recently hired Aric Cloutier as a lead analyst in the marketing department. Cloutier was previously a senior credit analyst at Bank of America.

Katahdin Trust recently hired Angela Franck as assistant vice president, branch manager and retail services officer for its existing branch in Eagle Lake and a branch under construction in Fort Kent. Franck was previously branch manager at The Bank of Maine in Fort Kent.

Casco Systems, an engineering and system integration firm in Cumberland, recently hired Doug Beale as general manager.

Pen Bay Healthcare in Rockport recently hired Sarah Dwelley as palliative care coordinator. Dwelley previously worked as director of hospice and palliative care at Kno-Wal-Lin.

PeoplesChoice Credit Union in Saco recently hired Christine Pleva as loan processing manager.

HistoryIT LLC, an information technology firm in Portland, recently hired Judith Paine McBrien, a historian and filmmaker, to work out of its Chicago office.

The Maine Department of Labor recently hired Elizabeth Wyman as chief hearing officer and director of the Division of Administrative Hearings in the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation. Wyman previously worked in the Maine Office of the Attorney General.

Promotions

MEMIC, a workers' compensation insurer in Portland, recently promoted Randy Klatt to manager, loss control services. Klatt was previously a safety consultant.

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution recently promoted Allison Steele from Westbrook assistant branch manager to assistant vice president and Jean Cosgrove and Debra Houle to customer relationship associates in the bank's Saco branch.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, recently promoted Patrick Scully to CEO. Scully has been with the firm for 30 years, serves on the firm's board of directors and is former chair of its municipal and regulatory practice group. The firm also named Ronald Schneider Jr. and Matt Tarasevich as co-chairs of its labor and employment practice group. Schneider is a shareholder and a member of the firm's labor and employment practice, health care and litigation groups while Tarasevich is a shareholder and a member of the firm's labor and employment practice, municipal and regulatory practice and litigation groups.

Perkins Thompson, a law firm in Portland, recently elected Stephanie Williams and Anthony Manhart as directors and shareholders.

Down East Magazine in Camden recently promoted Virginia Wright to senior editor. Wright was previously the magazine's senior writer.

TD Bank recently promoted Allison Bryant to vice president, market sales manager in Oxford. Bryant was previously manager at the Great Falls Plaza branch in Auburn.

The board of directors of United Way of York County recently promoted Barb Wentworth as president and CEO. Wentworth most recently served as interim president and CEO.

PeoplesChoice Credit Union in Saco recently promoted Diana Cabral to loan processor and Ruth Colucci to residential mortgage loan processor.

Appointments

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, recently announced that Simon Leeming, a director and attorney in the firm's Concord, N.H., office, has been named a member of New Zealand's select Order of Merit in recognition of his contributions to New Zealand-United States relations. The Order of Merit is awarded to New Zealand citizens “who in any field of endeavor, have rendered meritorious service to the Crown and the nation or who have become distinguished by their eminence, talents, contributions, or other merits.”

Pierce Atwood, a law firm in Portland, recently announced that partner Dave Anderson was been confirmed by the Executive Council to serve as a judge on the New Hampshire Superior Court.

The Maine Women's Fund recently announced that CEO Sarah Ruef-Lindquist was appointed to the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women. The group advises the governor and members of the Legislature about policy and social issues affecting women and girls in the state.

Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area recently added Sabra Ireland to its board of directors. Ireland is an associate broker for Century 21 Surette Real Estate in Waterville.

Day One, a nonprofit agency in South Portland that works to prevent and treat adolescent substance abuse, recently added Emily Bugbee to its board of directors for a three-year term. Bugbee is a business information consultant at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine.

GrowSmart Maine recently announced five new board members and a new vice chair. David Webster, president of PDT Architects in Portland, was elected as vice chair. New board members elected include Carl Eppich, Greater Portland Council of Governments; Jennifer Burns Gray, Maine Audubon; Auburn Mayor Jonathan LaBonte, Androscoggin Land Trust; Doug Sanford, Eastland Development; and Ed Suslovic, Portland city councilor.

Auburn Savings Bank recently added Anne Torregrossa to its board of directors. Torregrossa is an associate of Brann & Isaacson, a law firm in Lewiston.

Unity College President Stephen Mulkey was recently appointed to the board of directors for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. The association's mission is to empower higher education to lead the sustainability transformation.

Achievements

Camp Sunshine, a national retreat in Casco for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, recently announced that it has received a 2013 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, a provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations. The award was based on the large number of positive reviews that the camp received from those who have had direct experience with the organization.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, recently received national rankings in two practice areas and was highly ranked in 45 metropolitan practice areas in U.S. News & Best Lawyers Best Law Firms rankings. The firm was ranked nationally for its health care and litigation-bankruptcy practices. The rankings are based on an evaluation process that includes the collection of client and lawyer evaluations, peer review from leading attorneys in their field and review of additional information provided by law firms.

Androscoggin Bank announced that Melissa Rock, assistant vice president and marketing manager, recently earned a Certified Financial Marketing Professional Certification through the American Bankers Association School of Bank Marketing and Management. The bank also announced that Rhonda Hamel, vice president and project manager, recently earned the designation of project management professional from the Project Management Institute.
