New hires

SymQuest Group, a networking and document management company in Westbrook, recently hired Rob Gardner as document account executive.

Norway Savings Bank recently hired Kaleigh Deering as assistant vice president and branch manager of the bank's 1200 Congress St. branch in Portland.

Camden National Bank recently hired Donna Maynard as vice president, senior retail lender. Maynard was previously with TD Bank and Sun Trust Bank.

Northern Maine Development Commission recently hired Dana Delano as deputy division director. Delano, who is the Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership program manager, will work cooperatively with the Planning and Development, and Economic and Workforce Development divisions on projects as assigned by both division directors.

Rudman Winchell, a law firm in Bangor, recently hired John Hamer and David Walker IV as partners.

Commercial Properties Inc. in Portland recently hired Susan Scanlon as broker/marketing director.

The MMC Physician-Hospital Organization in Portland recently hired Elizabeth Johnson as CEO. Johnson most recently served as the chief medical officer of Martin's Point Health Care.

Life Safety Specialists Inc., an occupational safety, emergency response training and emergency management services firm in Norway, recently hired David Wacker as a safety and health consultant/trainer. Wacker recently retired as the director of the workplace safety and health division of the Maine Department of Labor.

The Maine Republican Party recently hired Ashley Sampson as finance executive and Joe Turcotte as state field director.

The directors of Macpage LLC, a CPA firm in South Portland, recently hired Jay McCormick as a tax staff accountant and Denise Miller as a consultant with the information assurance services team. Previously McCormick was a consultant at a state-funded incubator for Connecticut startup companies while Miller was a tax examiner at the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.

Southern Maine Community College in South Portland recently hired Clarke Canfield as director of communications. Canfield, an award-winning journalist, was previously with The Associated Press.

Avesta Housing, a nonprofit affordable housing developer in Portland, recently announced several new hires. Nicole DiGeronimo was hired as a foreclosure prevention housing counselor in the Avesta Home Ownership Center; Todd Rothstein, director of construction services; Shreya Shah and Brooks More, development officers; Nathan Eaton and Kevin Leavitt, accounting specialists; Abdi Sharif, Heidi Beaulieu and Patty Carson, property managers; Dan Demmons, maintenance technician; Megan Look, office manager; and Felicia Mathews, receptionist.

Residential Mortgage Services in South Portland recently hired Liz Monaghan, who previously owned Monaghan Mortgage.

Pulp+Wire, a branding company in Portland, recently hired Katie Bell as production manager. Bell most recently worked as production artist and journalist at Current Publishing in Westbrook.

The Maine Development Foundation in Augusta recently hired Lorain Francis as senior program director for the Maine Downtown Center. Francis previously served as founding executive director/Main Street manager at Rockland Main Street Inc.

The Next Step Domestic Violence Project in Ellsworth recently hired Pamela Gagnon as youth educator.

DMM Inc., a direct marketing company and print service provider in Scarborough, recently hired Cosmo DiPierro as CFO and Tom Richardson as director of production. Previously DiPierro was with Pierce Promotions and Event Management and Richardson worked for Bradford & Bigelow and Raytheon Aerospace.

Promotions

Pine Tree Food Equipment in Gray recently promoted Dan Poulin to vice president of operations. Poulin has been with the company since 1999.

DMM Inc., a direct marketing company and print service provider in Scarborough, recently promoted Amanda Daggett to customer service lead. Daggett was previously an account manager.

MMG Insurance Co. in Presque Isle recently announced several promotions: William Sweeney from senior inside appraiser to casualty claims supervisor; Matthew Cote from commercial lines lead underwriter to commercial lines senior underwriter; Chad Brewer from programming supervisor to information systems assistant manager; and Chantal Pelletier from senior customer service representative to customer service supervisor.

Scott Simons Architects in Portland recently promoted Linda Braley to senior associate. Braley has been with the firm for more than seven years.

Katahdin Trust Co. in Houlton recently promoted Susan Lunn to vice president, compliance officer; Katie Hill to assistant vice president, bank operations manager; and Sarah Silliboy to assistant vice president, electronic banking manager. Lunn was previously vice president, bank operations; Hill was operations supervisor; and Silliboy was supervisor of the electronic banking department.

Appointments

Gross, Minsky & Mogul P.A., a law firm in Bangor, recently announced that shareholder James Nixon has been recommended by the judges of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine for reappointment as National Criminal Justice Act Panel Representative for the District of Maine. The panel representative acts as a resource to all panel members in their defense of federal criminal cases and works with the Federal Defender for the District of Maine to assure competent representation of criminal defendants and to provide continuing legal education.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine announced that Alison Schmidt, Jean Whitney, Michael Royer, Tracy Rogers and Jim Baron recently joined its board of directors. Schmidt is vice president of business development at PowerPay; Whitney, vice president training, TD Bank; Royer, accountant and partner, Berry Talbot & Royer; Rogers, financial planner, IMCG; and Baron, senior IT manager, Idexx. Kristy Abraham, an attorney with Preti Flaherty, was elected board president; Ellen Niewoehner, TD Commercial Lending, treasurer; Chuck Piacentini, Unum, and Matthew Chin, COO, Goodwill, vice presidents; and Karen True Winslow, Wintergreen Financial Group, secretary.

The Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership recently announced that Carl Spang, president of Falcon Footwear in Auburn, and James Donnelly, executive vice president of Machias Savings Bank, were elected to its board of directors. Spang brings more than 20 years of manufacturing experience to the board, while Donnelly possesses more than 20 years of banking and commercial finance expertise.

Charlene Williams, president of Nancy Marshall Communications in Augusta, was recently elected to serve as the vice president of the 2014 board of directors of Maine Public Relations Council.

The Home Care & Hospice Alliance of Maine recently presented Muriel Poulin with the 2013 Home Care Volunteer of the Year Award. Poulin is a volunteer with HomeHealth Visiting Nurses in Saco.

Putney Inc., a pet pharmaceutical company in Portland, recently announced it ranked No. 290 on Deloitte's Technology Fast 500, a ranking of the fastest growing technology, life sciences, telecommunications and media companies in North America.

The Princeton Review, The Best 295 Business Schools: 2014 Edition recently named the University of Southern Maine's School of Business as the “best choice for Portland-area professionals” for the second consecutive year.

The editors of Business Management Daily recently chose the website of the Portland law firm Fisher & Phillips, laborlawyers.com, as one of the most helpful legal resources for human resources professionals.

Woodard & Curran, an engineering firm in Portland, recently won the 2014 Grand Conceptor Engineering Excellence Award from the Maine chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies. The firm received the award for its work with the city of Ellsworth to plan, design and oversee construction of the new Bayside Road wastewater treatment facility and its associated systems.

The Northeast Diesel Collaborative, a partnership among the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, state agencies and private and nonprofit groups, recently recognized Oakhurst Dairy and Maine Standard Biofuels for their leadership and efforts in reducing diesel emissions. The two Portland companies were selected as 2013 Breathe Easy Leadership recipients as a result of their seven-year partnership and commitment to reducing diesel emissions.

Healthline.com recently recognized Acadia Hospital for its role in the short film, “The Road Back,” and its involvement in National Depression Screening Day. The film, produced by the hospital in conjunction with Project AWARE and Maine teens, was chosen as one of the 10 best depression videos of 2013.
