Newsworthy people and performances for Sept. 6, 2021

New hires

Yokogawa Fluid Imaging Technologies Inc. in Scarborough hired Becca Mimmovich as a sales support specialist. Mimmovich was previously a technical support trainer at IDEXX Laboratories.

Maine Behavioral Healthcare in Portland hired Marc Glass as director of communications and public affairs. Glass was previously director of public affairs and strategic messaging at the University of Southern Maine.

The Maine Center for Entrepreneurs in Portland added Emily Lane to its Food Accelerator Team. Lane is president of Blue Lobster Consulting in Vinalhaven.

The Island Institute in Rockland hired Anthony Chatwin as president. Previously, Chatwin led the science and evaluation team at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn hired Ray Hanna Jr. as customer service coordinator, Renee Doolittle as HR generalist, Cassidy Gosselin as donor engagement specialist, Carol Miller as major gift officer and Micah Wilson as inventory and quality management specialist.

Eaton Peabody, a law firm in Bangor, hired Katherine Porter as senior counsel in the firm’s labor and employment and startup and emerging companies practice group based in Portland.

OTELCO, a fiber-to-the-premise and telephone provider based in New Gloucester, hired Jonathan Bicknell as a technical support technician in Bangor and Jason Cabral as a call center Representative in New Gloucester.

Central Maine Growth Council in Waterville hired Susan Ruhlin as accelerator managing director for Dirigo Labs, an entrepreneurial startup program scheduled to launch in early 2022. Ruhlin was previously vice president of operations for Introspective Systems, a Portland technology startup that develops software for microgrid controllers and energy storage systems.

InterMed in Portland hired Amy Sisson as nurse manager of its Ambulatory Surgery Center. Sisson has 15 years of experience in administration and nursing in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Northeast Hearing & Speech in Portland hired Laura Keech as an audiologist, Maggie Olore as a speech-language pathologist and Amber Booth and Ashlin Jalbert as administrative assistants.

Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden hired Taylor Ankers as a receptionist. Ankers is a licensed Maine property and casualty insurance producer and a Maine Notary Public.

The city of Portland hired Anne McGuire as assistant city manager. McGuire most recently worked as a senior advisor at Berger Hirschberg Strategies in New York City.

Coastal Enterprises Inc. in Brunswick hired Jennifer Burtchell as junior accountant, Rachel Rathburn as a business development services program coordinator, Tabin Tangila Mesu Kamba as program developer for workforce solutions and Lydia Atwood as vice president of finance and accounting at Bright Community Capital, the organization’s clean energy investment subsidiary.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Kennebec Valley in Gardiner hired Roger Collins as sports director.

Atlantic Federal Credit Union in South Portland hired Elisha Cicio as branch manager in Saco. Cicio was previously with Unum.

The Maine Sports Commission, a statewide nonprofit that markets Maine as a sports destination, hired Mike Guarino as associate director. Guarino was previously community development director at the Snow Pond Center for the Arts.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services in Augusta hired Ian Yaffe as director for the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Office of Population Health Equity. Yaffe was previously COO of the department’s COVID-19 Social Supports Program.

Promotions

The Waterville Opera House promoted Michelle Sweet to executive director. Sweet was previously assistant executive director.

Baker Newman Noyes, a CPA and consulting firm in Portland, promoted Ally Brophy to marketing manager; Gilda Bryand to tax operations senior manager; Megan Elliott, Gibrian Foltz and Kelly Pelletier to senior managers in the tax practice; Courtney Francis to senior manager in the multi-generational business tax group; Josie Hajdysz to director of finance; Spencer Hathaway to senior manager in the assurance practice; Dustin Kaubris and Michael Trahan to managers in the assurance practice; and Nate Marcet to manager in the tax practice.

Maine State Credit Union in Augusta promoted Stephen Wallace to executive vice president. Wallace was previously senior vice president of retail.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust promoted Stacie Madrid to branch relationship manager at its two locations in Bangor.

Atlantic Federal Credit Union in South Portland promoted Rachel Newman chief administrative officer and Lucy Ditzel to vice president of human resources and development.

Appointments

Hermann Haller, president of the MDI Biological Laboratory in Bar Harbor, was elected to the Leopoldina, the German National Academy of Sciences. The academy, which originated as a classical scholarly society in 1652, is the oldest continuously existing science academy in the world.

Coastal Enterprises Inc. in Brunswick added Debby Miller and Briana Warner to its board of directors. Miller is vice president for external relations at the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund while Warner is president and CEO of Atlantic Sea Farms.

The Portland Water District said it was awarded the “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” from the Government Finance Officers Association for its annual budget for fiscal year beginning Jan. 1, 2021.

Allen Insurance and Financial announced that Jennifer Coffin, a personal insurance account executive, earned the “Safeco Insurance Award of Excellence” for underwriting skill.

Verrill, a law firm in Portland, said that partners Kurt Klebe, Mary McQuillen and Jacqueline Rider were recognized in the “Chambers High Net Worth 2020 Guide” and the firm was ranked in “Band 1,” the highest ranking a firm can receive.

Inc. magazine listed Marina Holdings LLC, which is comprised of Yarmouth Boat Yard, Moose Landing Marina and Freedom Boat Club of Maine, No. 4,771 in its annual “Inc. 5000” list of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, said 37 of its Maine-based attorneys were recognized in the “Best Lawyers in America 2022.” The list includes three (Bodie Colwell, John Cronan III and Laura Rideout) who were identified as “Ones to Watch” and three (Joseph Donahue, Daniel Rapaport and Jeffrey Talbert) who were “Lawyer of the Year” recipients.

Murray Plumb & Murray, a law firm in Portland, said that six of its attorneys were recognized in the “Best Lawyers in America 2022,” including partners John Bannon and Stacey Neumann who were named “Lawyer of the Year” in Portland in their respective practice areas.

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, presented its “2nd Quarter Geiger Star Awards” to Johnathan Plummer, Linda Therriault, Mike St. Germain, Shuail Jusab and Tammy Cressey.

Berman & Simmons, a law firm in Lewiston, said eight of its attorneys were recognized in the “Best Lawyers in America 2022,” including four in the “2021 Edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch” and Daniel Kagan who was named “2022 Best Lawyers Lawyer of the Year” in the Augusta area.
