Oil production cuts lead to rise in national, state gas prices

Gas prices in Maine rose slightly to kick off October, as the average price for a gallon of gas rose two cents to $2.23.

In the week ending Tuesday, the average national price for a gallon of gas also rose by two cents, to $2.26, according to the price-tracking website GasBuddy.

The $2.23 statewide average in Maine is higher than New Hampshire’s average of $2.14, but lower than Vermont’s price of $2.25.

“Gasoline prices are up for the seventh straight day thanks to several main issues: OPEC's decision last week to cut oil production, which caused oil prices to immediately jump 5%, as well as refinery outages scattered around the country,” Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, said in a release.
