Paper co. adding jobs in East Millinocket

Great Northern Paper Co. announced Thursday it plans to restart a second paper machine at its East Millinocket mill, a move that is expected to create an additional 37 jobs.

Richard Cyr, Great Northern's president and CEO, told the Bangor Daily News the company hopes to have the second paper machine producing paper by early September. At full production, the paper machine is expected to produce 50,000 tons per year on top of the 150,000 tons produced annually by the other paper machine at the East Millinocket plant.

According to the BDN, when Great Northern reopened the East Millinocket paper mill in October 2011 it employed 215 workers. Since then, the newspaper reported, it has hired an additional 20 workers and has a 35- to 40-day backlog of orders.
