Passenger numbers dip at BIA

Bangor International Airport saw passenger numbers dip in July compared with the same month last year.

A total of 42,100 passengers came through BIA last month, a nearly 6.5% drop from July 2009's total of 44,983, according to statistics from the airport. Year to date, total passengers dipped nearly 1.5%. Total aircraft operations, including carrier, military and commuter, dropped from more than 5,400 in July 2009 to more than 4,900 last month. Domestic landings also fell 24%, though international landings increased 52%, from 122 in 2009 to 185 last month.

BIA saw its passenger numbers grow in 2009. But last August, Delta Air Lines, its largest carrier, announced it would discontinue service between BIA and Boston's Logan International Airport on Dec. 1. The news came days after Continental Airlines ceased its service from Bangor to Newark, N.J.
