Portland doctor heads global advocacy group

Peter Wilk, a Portland-based psychiatrist, is the new executive director of the national organization Physicians for Social Responsibility.

Wilk, 58, began the job Monday. Wilk, a leader of PSR's Maine chapter for the past 26 years, plans to work with Congress and the Obama administration to reduce the threat of nuclear weapons and to fight global climate change, according to the Sun Journal.

Wilk is in the process of closing down his Portland office, according to a message on his answering machine.
