Portland firm chosen to develop hospital on former industrial site in Gardiner

Developers Collaborative has been chosen by the city of Gardiner to redevelop a derelict industrial property into a new facility for MaineGeneral Medical Center.

The Kennebec Journal reported that the Portland-based developer, whose projects include a number of building conversions into housing, was chosen over a Delaware-based developer because it presented a broader plan for the city-owned property. The buildings previously served as a metal fabricator facility and offices for T.W. Dick.

The plan calls for the development of a medical arts building at 1 Summer St. that would replace the other MaineGeneral facility on Dresden Avenue.

Mike Lyne, chief operating officer of Developers Collaborative, told the paper that the company could also develop affordable family housing or senior housing on other parts of the site.
