Raye to make 3rd bid for U.S. House

Former Maine Senate President Kevin Raye said he will join the race for Maine’s 2nd District seat, according to the Kennebec Journal.

It will be Raye’s third attempt at a congressional election. This time, however, he won’t be up against Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, who is running for governor in 2014.

The announcement lines up a primary race between Raye, former state Treasurer Bruce Poliquin, Blaine Richardson of Belfast and possibly former state Sen. Richard Rosen, who the paper reported plans to announce his candidacy this fall.

The paper reported that Raye’s filing for candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission does not identify him as a Republican, but his wife said the omission is a clerical error. He will seek the Republican Party nomination in that race.

Democrats are also likely to have a primary race to determine their candidate. Sen. Emily Cain of Orono, Sen. Troy Jackson of Allagash and Alden Smith of Sangerville have announced their candidacies.
