Republican Party leaders resign

Rich Cebra and Beth O’Connor, chairman and vice chairwoman of the Maine Republican Party, have resigned after nearly seven months in the party’s top spots.

The Bangor Daily News reported Cebra resigned earlier this week for personal reasons and O’Connor had resigned around one week ago.

The paper reported news of Cebra’s resignation came as a surprise to party Secretary Charles Mahaleris, who told the paper he had not heard from the party chairman in over a month.

Jason Savage, executive director of the Maine Republican Party, told the paper that details about the process for replacing Cebra and O’Connor will be released soon. Cebra had taken over for departing Chairman Charlie Webster, who chose not to seek another term after Republicans lost control of the Legislature in 2012.
