Sake brewery to open in Kittery

Dan Ford, a former financial consultant and one of 87 advanced sake professionals in the world, is partnering with John Sygtowski of Exeter, N.H., to begin manufacturing sake this spring at their microbrewery on the Route 1 bypass in Kittery.

Ford told Seacoast Online that he and his partner plan to begin production of their sake at Blue Current Brewery as early as the end of March.

The microbrewery eventually will be able to brew up to 5,000 gallons of sake, but Ford said they will start slowly and initially will only distribute in Maine. In about a year, he said, the brewery plans to open a tasting room where people can sample the Japanese alcoholic beverage that is sometimes called rice wine.
