Sargent Corp., a 100% employee-owned general contractor headquartered in Old Town with operations throughout the eastern U.S. seaboard, received an Associated General Contractors of Maine-Build Maine Award in the municipal/utility category.

The award recognized the company’s work on the city of Portland’s 2.5-year, $29 million construction of the Back Cove West Storage Conduit, which is substantially complete.

The award, represented at the recent AGC Maine ceremony in Freeport, marked the second accolade for its project on the city of Portland’s utility infrastructure.

In March, the company was recognized for the project with Associated General Contractors of America’s "Construction Risk Partners Build America" award in the category of utility infrastructure.

“We’re so grateful for the many hours our employee-owners devoted to making this project a ‘win in the field,’” said Herb Sargent, CEO of Sargent Corp. “Nothing would be possible without the field crew, the support from our office staff and the sacrifices from their families.”

The Build America awards honor AGC members who build the nation's most impressive construction projects ranging across the building, highway and transportation, utility infrastructure, and federal and heavy divisions. Build America winners excel in the areas of:

  • State-of-the-art advancement
  • Project management
  • Innovation in construction techniques or materials
  • Safety record
  • Client service
  • Community relations
  • Environmental sensitivity
  • Partnering excellence

Chartered in 1951, the Associated General Contractors of Maine is the state’s largest construction industry trade association. The association maintains an office in Augusta and has 185-plus members statewide. Member companies include general contractors, subcontractors, and service and supply providers.
