Searsport hearings extended

The Searsport Planning Board will on Friday hold its fifth consecutive public hearing this week to take comments on a controversial proposal to build a $40 million gas tank in town, according to WABI.

The proposal by DCP Midstream, one of the nation's largest marketers of natural gas, would construct a $40 million liquid propane tank at the town's Mack Point industrial zone, where it has received approval from the state Department of Environmental Protection and federal regulators.

The decision now comes to the local level, where opponents have organized a coalition to present evidence and question company officials about the project. Tonight will be the final public hearing until an environmental impact report on the proposed plan is complete, the station reported.
