Standish hay dealer under scrutiny

Farmers from New England and Canada are working to recover money they say a Maine hay dealer owes them.

The Portland Press Herald reported the Standish-based West Wind Farm LLC, operated by David Taylor under the name the "Hay Guy," is now under scrutiny from a group of at least 17 farmers who say they are owed over $100,000.

Police and FBI investigators collected information from some of those farmers during a meeting in Freeport Tuesday but declined to provide the paper further information about the complaint.

Taylor declined to comment to the paper, saying his attorney advised him not to grant interviews. Taylor did not disclose the name of his lawyer.

On its website, Taylor's company bills itself as the largest hay distributor in New England. The farmers involved in Tuesday's meeting say there could be others who sold hay to Taylor's company and have not been paid.
