Tax reform foes threaten legal action

The group fighting for a repeal of tax reform legislation passed this year is threatening legal action if its petition signatures are not verified today.

Still Fed Up With Taxes said it will go to court if Secretary of State Matt Dunlap does not complete the certification of the people's veto petitions by today, according to WGAN. The group turned in over 60,000 signatures in September to put the veto on the June 2010 ballot. The Secretary of State's office was supposed to certify those signatures and announce whether the veto would make the ballot by Oct. 13, but Dunlap said work associated with Tuesday's referendum has delayed the review process.

Gov. John Baldacci signed the tax reform bill into law in June.
