The culinary appeal of the coast of Maine

Chef Cara Stadler is among several chefs who have have made the transition from New York to the Maine coast, the Boston Globe reported this week.

The story looks at the appeal of the coast of Maine and asks why so many female chefs are drawn here.

It may sound like a rhetorical question, given that people of all kinds are attracted to the coast, but the story has some interesting examples.

Other chefs the Globe talked to were Rebecca Charles of Pearl Kennebunk Beach, which is expected to open next year. She is the owner of the Pearl Oyster Bar in Manhattan.

In Rockport, Sara Jenkins, who has two Italian restaurants in New York, has opened Nina June.

Melissa Kelly of Rockland’s Primo is also mentioned, in addition to Stadler, owner of Tao Yuan in Brunswick and Bao Bao Dumpling House in Portland.
