Tribe gives DOT $1.9M

The Passamaquoddy Tribe has given the Maine Department of Transportation $1.9 million it received through federal highway funding to help pay for two projects.

Indian Township received the money through the Bureau of Indian Affairs Indian Reservation Road Program and is working with the state on two transportation projects in the region, according to the Bangor Daily News. One project is to replace a U.S. Route 1 bridge for $3 million, expected to be completed next year. The second project is the rebuilding of 10 miles of Grand Lake Stream Road, a rural state highway ineligible for direct federal funds, for $2.5 million. That project will be finished this year.

Last year, Indian Township gave the DOT nearly $1 million to be used toward the $1.7 million Milford Street bridge replacement recently completed.
