USM, SMCC link tourism degree programs

A new agreement between the University of Southern Maine and Southern Maine Community College offers students a new path to a four-year degree in one of the state's top industry: hospitality and tourism.

The agreement signed Monday will allow students who completed SMCC's new two-year hospitality management program to transfer credits toward a bachelor's degree from USM's new tourism and hospitality program.

Both programs focus on skills that include business management, marketing, sustainable tourism and tourism development, nature-based tourism and event management, according to a press release.

The agreement signed Monday goes into effect this fall.
