Weeds got your goat? Fight back with a herd

We all have food preferences that bring out the eww factor from others. Take weeds. That’s something even a churlish child wouldn’t gnaw on.

But to a goat, it’s a buffet worthy of serious nibbling. And to Scapegoats, a Kennebunk company that rents out the natural yard debris trimmers, it’s serious cash to the tune of $575 for a goat herd per week, according to a WMTW8 TV news story.

Company owner Heather Lombard has seven goats that chew on green matter and bark, cleaning out about an eighth of an acre in three days.

And while not everyone might appreciate the sleep-over guests or the recycled vegetation they leave behind, Lombard told the news station the manure can help fertilize the soil.

What’s it like hanging out with goats? Lombard tells the ABC news station they’re like dogs.

“They’re affectionate like dogs. They know their names. There’s a bond there,” she told the station.

The demand for natural clean-outs is growing. Lombard told the station the goats will have plenty to eat, as they’re booked through the fall.
