Wind farm opponents file court complaint
The opponents of a wind farm on Pisgah Mountain in Clifton are taking their appeal to superior court, after local efforts to reverse the town's approval failed.
Farmers Peter and Julie Beckford have filed a complaint in Penobscot County Superior Court alleging the town last October erroneously approved a permit for the five-turbine wind farm, according to the Bangor Daily News. The Beckfords, who say the wind farm would harm their perennial flower farm, earlier this year unsuccessfully appealed the project to the Clifton board of appeals. The Beckfords are asking the court to issue a ruling on whether the wind farm should have been approved and send the proposal back to the planning board for additional review and "a decision consistent with this court's holding."
The developer, Pisgah Mountain LLC, is made up of Paul Fuller of Bangor, his wife and brother-in-law, and two Clifton residents. Construction is expected to begin next year. The wind farm already has an agreement to sell its electricity to Bangor Hydro Electric Co.
