After opening its sixth location on Sebago Lake in 2022, Freedom Boat Club of Maine plans to open its seventh location, this time at DiMillo’s Marina in Kennebunk.
Other club locations include Boothbay, Yarmouth, Naples, Sebago Lake, Portland and South Portland.
Freedom Boat Club of Maine is owned by Steve Arnold, owner of Marina Holdings, which also includes Yarmouth Boat Yard, Moose Landing Marina, Maine Boating Academy, Sea Tow Portland/Midcoast and Portland Sea Taxi. He bought the Freedom Boat Club of Maine franchise in 2017.
“We’ve had a lot of interest from potential members who were eager to have a club in the region,” said Arnold.
Luke DiMillo, the marina’s manager, said the club is expected to be a great option for boaters in the area.
“We look forward to welcoming Freedom Boat Club to our marina,” said DiMillo.
Fleet vessels in Maine include 22-foot to 25-foot center consoles, dual consoles, cruisers, rigid inflatables and pontoon boats.
Freedom Boat Club was founded in 1989 in Sarasota, Fla., and claims to be the oldest and largest boat club in the nation, according to its website.
The model provides a reservation system to provide members with access to the club’s boats. Today the company has more than 50,000 members and hundreds of franchise operations in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. To ensure boat availability, club locations maintain a member-to-boat ratio, adding more vessels to their fleets as membership grows.
Freedom Boat Club is part of Brunswick Corp., which is based in suburban Chicago and owns brands like Mercury Marine engines, Bayliner Boats, Boston Whaler, Cypress Cay Pontoon Boats and Sea Ray.
