Wreath maker to add 250 workers

A Machias wreath-making business expects to add more than 250 jobs this fall after being chosen to supply balsam products for the 2009 L.L.Bean holiday catalog.

Whitney Wreath will need several full-time workers, about 20 eight-month positions and an extra 250 seasonal workers in order to meet the higher production demand, the Associated Press reported. President and owner David Whitney said the added work makes his company the largest mail-order Christmas wreath business in the country.

The company has facilities in Machias, Crawford, Indian Township and Presque Isle, the AP reported.
