York photographer, Google give 3D business tours

A southern Maine photographer is taking Google Maps viewers inside businesses throughout Maine and New Hampshire.

Seacoast Online reported that York resident Chris Rioux, 28, is taking shots inside businesses for the "street view" feature of Google Maps, which allows computer users to browse streets through real photos from the perspective of a driver.

Rioux has started up his business, Indoor Street View, which is now reaching out to individual business owners, like his first client, Stonewall Kitchen.

Rioux told the paper that he works as a contractor for Google and is not paid by the company but by the clients.

On average, he said, small- to medium-sized businesses pay less than $1,000 to photograph a store for inclusion in Google's Indoor Street View feature.
