Husson, local businesses partner for workforce development

Husson University and a number of local employers have entered into partnerships that will provide a boost to workforce development through targeted education programs at the school.

“These cooperative educational partnerships benefit both employers and their employees,” William Watson, director of Husson's Internships & Partnership Program, said in a statement. “Well-designed and targeted education provides organizations with a higher quality workforce and improves the opportunity for internal promotions. This often leads to increased productivity and profitability. Education also enhances retention and can be used as a recruitment incentive.”

Among the businesses partnering with the private university are Bangor Savings Bank, construction and engineering firm Cianbro; workers’ compensation specialist MEMIC; disability insurance provider UNUM and the Jackson Laboratory.

“Selecting Husson University for workforce development makes sense,” Marie Hansen, dean of the Husson University College of Business, said. “The college of business is the largest school of its kind in the state and we have more than 100 years of experience in providing education that leads to professional success.”

Bob Montgomery-Rice, president and CEO of Bangor Savings Bank, said in a news release that he sees the education partnership as a way to help employees further their careers.

“Having a partnership with a school like Husson, who truly understands our emphasis on the role education plays in strengthening Maine’s workforce, is really important,” he said. “Employees are keenly aware; they want to enhance their skills in preparation for new opportunities, and they see education as a meaningful pathway to accomplish that.”
