Bangor Housing to work on 34 new apartments

Bangor Housing Development Corp. is set to start work on two projects to add commercial space and 34 apartments in downtown Bangor.

The Bangor Daily News reported the development wing of the Bangor Housing Authority plans to start demolition Monday at six buildings at the corner of First and Davis streets to build 24 townhouse-style apartment units. The housing authority also plans to redevelop the former Freese’s Department Store early next year, pending approval of plans by the city council in December.

That redevelopment project would add 10 new apartment units on the building’s second and third floors and would open first-floor space for commercial use. Mike Myatt, executive director of Bangor Housing, told the paper that tenants could move into the 10-apartment project as early as June if the project goes out to bid in January.
