Small business health care website delayed

While officials say major glitches to healthcare.gov have been fixed for individuals, businesses with fewer than 50 workers will have to wait until next year before they too can shop for small group plans online.

The Associated Press reported that the Obama administration has pushed back the launch of its online small-business marketplace, dubbed SHOP, until next November. Until then, administration officials said employers will need to go through an agent, broker or insurance company instead of the federal website.

The delay affects states, like Maine, that decided against running their own health care exchanges.

The AP reported that small businesses will remain eligible for tax credits to bring down the cost of coverage for plans purchased through brokers, agents and insurers next year.
