Hamlin's Marine boatmaker to increase workforce with new contract
Hampden boat maker Puffin Boats LLC has signed an agreement to build fiberglass boats for a South Carolina company.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the agreement with the Summerville, S.C.-based Scout Boats Inc. is expected to allow Puffin Boats to double its manufacturing crew. The company plans to add five workers in the next couple of years. Puffin Boats employees 23 people in total.
Puffin Boats began building its dinghies at Hamlin’s Marine two years ago.
Details of the agreement were not released, but Hamlin’s Marine General Manager Dan Higgins told the BDN that the contract is open-ended, and the boat maker will be building in batches. The initial order calls for 18 vessels.
