Lobster co-op manager arrested in theft investigation

Police have arrested the wharf manager of the Spruce Head Fisherman's Cooperative in South Thomaston after allegations that he stole over $10,000 and other items from the lobster cooperative.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Robert Thompson, 51, of St. George was arrested Wednesday after an investigation by local, state and federal police and the execution of four search warrants by the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators told the paper it is not known if others who are part of the 80-member fishing cooperative will be charged in connection with the investigation.

The investigation involved the Maine Marine Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Internal Revenue Service.

Thompson was released on $100,000 bail Wednesday afternoon, according to the BDN.
