New Megabucks offers higher stakes

If they're willing to cough up an extra dollar, lottery players in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont will soon have a bi-weekly chance at getting rich with a new jackpot game, Tri-State Megabucks Plus.

Starting Sunday, the Plus game will replace Tri-State Megabucks, which became the first multi-state lottery in 1985 and will have its last drawing this Saturday, according to the Associated Press. Tickets will increase from $1 to $2.

Lottery executive Director Rick Wisler says the jackpots will now all start at $1 million, the second-place prize will be bigger and the overall odds of winning will increase to 1 in 6 versus the old odds of 1 in 21, the AP reported.
