Tom’s of Maine reconfigures sales staff

The Kennebunk-based Tom’s of Maine is cutting 28 positions from its national sales staff and creating 15 new jobs.

Company CEO Tom O’Brien made the announcement Wednesday at the company’s headquarters, though the move does not have a significant impact on the number of Maine workers at the company.

The Portland Press Herald reported the company will drop from 93 positions in Maine to 92 through the change.

Company officials told Mainebiz the new positions will focus on production innovation and shopper marketing to help get new products to stores faster and customize how those products are displayed in stores. All of the affected employees will be eligible to apply for the new positions opening and will be offered severance, benefit continuation and outplacement services.
