Con artist gets three years for duping County couple

A former New Hampshire stockbroker convicted of duping an Aroostook County couple out of more than $195,000 will spend three years in prison, according to the Bangor Daily News.

James A. Philbrook was convicted in mid-September of defrauding the couple by promising them substantial returns on an investment in a phony pay-per-view cable show featuring Carmen Electra.

In addition, Philbrook was ordered to pay the couple $195,000 in restitution for the scam after an Aroostook County Superior Court jury found him guilty of two felony charges of theft by unauthorized taking and securities fraud related to two investment schemes he devised between 2005 and 2006.
