Jury awards $10,000 to The Brunswick Inn

A jury has awarded The Brunswick Inn $10,000 in damages as a result of its trademark dispute with another Brunswick hotel that has a similar name.

The Portland Press Herald reported a judge will still need to decide whether the similarly named Inn at Brunswick Station will be required to change its name following the ruling. James Goggin, a Verrill Dana attorney representing The Brunswick Inn, said in a press release that the jury decision will help clear up confusion among customers and tourists. Frank Gaeta, a Boston attorney representing The Inn at Brunswick Station, told the paper that he saw the verdict as mixed and that the jury found the trademark infringement was not willful.

Both sides will now make their case over whether The Inn at Brunswick Station should be allowed to continue operating under that name.
