Bangor car dealer strikes plea bargain

Glenn Geiser Jr., 48, is scheduled to plead no contest to 28 of 84 counts of using counterfeit inspection stickers and pay a $7,000 fine, the Bangor Daily News reported.

The newspaper reported the fine comprises $250 per count, plus fees and other surcharges. The other charges against Geiser will be dismissed. He faces a separate lawsuit from the state’s attorney general that accuses him of using unfair and deceptive trade practices and seeks to suspend his license to sell cars.

Investigators with the Maine State Police said that Geiser had illegally purchased inspection stickers from a Winterport auto shop after his own license to issue inspection stickers was suspended on Aug. 13, 2013.

Issuing counterfeit certificates of inspection is a Class E crime that carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison and a $1,000 fine.
