BIW awarded $33M destroyer contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded Bath Iron Works $33.1 million to provide ongoing lead yard services for DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.

The funding will allow BIW, which employs roughly 5,400 people, to continue work on DDG-51 class destroyers while it transitions to the construction of the Navy's next-generation DDG-1000 destroyers.

BIW has provided program management, engineering and design support as the lead shipyard for the DDG-51 class since 1987. This contract includes work associated with the restart of the DDG-51 program and upgrades associated with the ships' combat systems.
