Camp Sunshine, a year-round, cost-free retreat in Casco for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, received a $908,510 check from Tropical Smoothie Café.
“In our 10th year of fundraising for Camp Sunshine, the Tropical Smoothie Café franchisees, team members and guests once again stepped up and raised over $900,000 in 2017, putting our total donations since our relationship began to more than $5 million,” Tropical Smoothie Café CEO Mike Rotondo said in a news release. “Each year, we continue to be so encouraged by the amazing work that Camp Sunshine does, offering a destination that provides memorable experiences for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.”
During its recent winter oncology camp, Camp Sunshine gave families and their children the opportunity to relax and connect with other families. In addition to indoor activities including the pool, arts and crafts, and evening entertainment, families can also enjoy snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating and an afternoon of skiing or snowboarding lessons.
The funds raised by Tropical Smoothie Café will also go to sponsoring a summer oncology session, help with family transportation assistance, as well as assist with other camp needs.
Nine employees from various Tropical Smoothie Café locations also volunteered during the Feb. 16-20 winter session.
"We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of Tropical Smoothie Café," Camp Sunshine Executive Director Michael Katz said in a news release. "Not only have they raised a substantial amount of money for Camp Sunshine over the years, they have also been instrumental in increasing awareness and helping families outside of Maine learn about the programs that are offered here.”
