Car dealer fined for deceptive adverts

A car dealership in Newcastle has signed a consent decree to stop using unfair and deceptive advertising, Maine's Attorney General's office announced yesterday.

Newcastle Chrysler Dodge Jeep and its marketing firm, Level 10 Marketing Inc., of New Orleans, distributed sale vouchers advertising a four-day sale in November 2006 and promised customers $4,000 in instant savings if they bought a car. The savings were not realized, according to a press release from the AG's office. The consent decree is not an admission of wrongdoing.

Both the car dealership and Level 10 must pay a civil penalty of $6,250 and the dealership must give customers who purchased vehicles during the four-day sale a cash refund of $550.
