Cianbro cuts 110 jobs

Pittsfield-based Cianbro Corp. has cut 110 workers from its Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer because of a drop in demand for oil.

A third of the workers will be laid off temporarily, and the remainder will be assigned to other projects, according to the Bangor Daily News. The workers had been occupied with building components for an oil refinery expansion in Texas, but because of a drop in oil prices, the refinery timeline has been pushed back. The company celebrated the grand opening of the facility in August.

Of the 110 employees cut from the site, 75 will be assigned to other projects, the paper reported. Following the cuts on Friday, there were 410 people working in Brewer.
