Developer expands plans in Lewiston

The firm that's building a hotel on Lewiston's Island Point property wants to expand the proposal to include shops, a parking garage and housing, according to the Sun Journal.

Winston Hospitality, based in Raleigh, N.C., will present its new plan tomorrow to the Lewiston City Council. The firm already has franchise rights to build a $16 million Marriott Courtyard hotel at Island Point. Under the plan, the city also would spend up to $1.5 million on site improvements and offer two tax increment financing deals to Winston to offset the cost of the development, the paper said.

Local developer Travis Soule has been trying to finance the Island Point project since 2004. Until now, no development group would finance the entire project, the paper said.
