Dress for Success Maine to close

A Portland-based nonprofit that has provided women in need with professional attire for job interviews is closing, shutting the doors at its Portland location and at a recent expansion in Bangor.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Dress for Success Maine, which has had a store in Portland since 1998 and a location in Bangor since earlier this year, is liquidating its inventory at both locations over the next few weeks.

Kimberly Allen, executive director of the nonprofit, told the BDN that she had hoped the Bangor expansion would give the organization increased revenue but the plan was not enough to keep the organization afloat.

The organization was affiliated with Dress for Success Worldwide, which gave the Maine branch its top honor in June for increasing fundraising 78% over last year, the BDN reported.
