Employees buy Rockland firm SteelPro

The 35 employees of Rockland manufacturer SteelPro Inc. have purchased the company for an undisclosed price through an employee stock option plan.

The Bangor Daily News reported former owner Christopher Beebe wanted the business to retain local ownership despite his plans to exit the company he purchased with Fred Carey in 1983.

The company fabricates metal and builds stainless steel tanks used in pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical applications. With the purchase, employee Steve Ladd will take over as president as part of a four-person management team.
