Foraged foods leverage new food company in Millinocket

A new food company in Millinocket features Maine-grown ingredients, including foraged foods.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Steven Golieb and Ashley Wells opened their natural food company, Edible Wilds, in the former Pelletier Logging Family Restaurant in downtown Millinocket.

Future products he is working on in the former restaurant’s commercial kitchen include ingredients like sunflower pollen and the seeds of curly dock, a member of the wild buckwheat family.

They are sourcing ingredients from local farmers and producers, by foraging the Maine woods and fields and by hiring local residents to help make products and forage. Products are starting to be used in Maine restaurants and sold in Maine stores, the BDN reported

“Our long-term goal is really to create a larger market for our products, and we want to shift towards growing healthier and native plants,” Golieb told the BDN.
