Greatest achievement: To date, my greatest achievement has been supporting A/Z Corporation’s Maine region in achieving 365 days (and counting) without a single recordable injury on any of our projects. Knowing that Mainers have gone home safe to their families, for over a year, is A personal achievement that will not soon be matched.

Passion project: I’m currently involved in planning a church in Windham.

Lightbulb moment: One summer in college, I was working as a tour guide at the Ben & Jerrys factory in Waterbury, Vt. Making people smile every day became a passion of mine and I knew that I wanted a career that would give me a similar opportunity while also positively impacting my community. After spending six years in the maritime industry, I found a job in construction safety that exceeded my expectations. I have the privilege of bolstering my community through meaningful construction projects while helping keep my fellow community members safe. All while (hopefully) making at least one person smile every day.

Meaningful book: “The Power of Habit,” by Charles Duhigg

Favorite TV shows: “Brooklyn 99” and “The Office”

Heroes: I have five. My Grandfather, Johan Naess. Or any one of my four sisters: Kirstin, Emma, Libby, and Annie. Each one has had a unique and profound impact on my life.

Favorite quote: “Remember this, had any other condition been better for you than the one in which you are in, divine love would have put you there” — Charles Spurgeon

Best way to recharge: Hike the NE 67 with my wife Rachael and dog, Jett.

Maine’s biggest challenges: Mental health and the negative stigma that can exist (especially with men) In seeking mental health resources. I am a HUGE advocate for sharing my journey of seeking and going through counseling and the profound impact it’s had on my life.

Dinner party guests: Olaf Naess (my great grandfather who immigrated to the U.S. in 1899); Lewis & Clark (you can’t just invite one); Ferdinand Magellan. There is something powerful in the anticipation of the unknown. I would love to hear how they all managed the tension of courage in the midst of fear as they began their life altering journeys.
