Spotlight

The Maine Office of Community Development recently awarded $350,000 to the town of Livermore Falls to offset construction and site work costs of a new 13,500-square-foot medical arts center located in vacant space on Main Street. The OCD administers the HUD-funded Community Development Block Grant Program in Maine.

The new center will be owned by Franklin Memorial Hospital and is designed to bring together personnel and services currently provided at Franklin Health Livermore Falls Family Practice on Union Street and Franklin Memorial Hospital Outpatient Services on Main Street.

Preliminary site assessment work has been completed and the project’s completion is projected for late 2011. PDT Architects designed the building; construction will be overseen by Developers Collaborative, an association of real estate developers. The total cost of the project is $4 million.

 

Company News

Planetearthsupport, a technology support service, recently opened an office at 99 Silver St. in Portland.

The Amtrak Downeaster, which is operated by the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, was recently approved for a $20.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to construct a 10.4-mile section of double track between Wilmington and Andover, Mass.

CreativeMind Search Marketing, an inbound marketing agency in South Berwick, recently announced it added nine new clients in the first quarter of 2011.

Goodwill Industries of Northern New England recently earned Energy Star status from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its Belfast and Rockland retail stores.

The First Bancorp recently announced unaudited results for the quarter ended March 31. Net income was $3.1 million, up $459,000, or 17.1%, from the same period in 2010, and earnings per common share on a fully diluted basis of $0.29 were up $0.05, or 20.8%, from the same period in 2010. Compared to the previous quarter, net income was up $66,000, or 2.1%, and earnings per common share on a fully diluted basis were up $0.01 to $0.29.

The U.S. Economic Development Administration recently announced it is providing Loring Development Authority with a $1.1 million investment for critical repairs and infrastructure upgrades to the water distribution and treatment systems serving the Loring Commerce Centre in Limestone.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development recently announced it will award grants totaling $151,400 to the following organizations: Friends of the Church on the Hill in Addison, $97,000, to renovate a historic church into a community center; The LifeFlight Foundation in Camden, $11,250, to construct a weather observing station on the roof of Rumford Hospital to improve access for emergency medical helicopters; and Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library in Mars Hill, $43,150, to make repairs to the library. It also announced the town of Thomaston will receive $1.8 million to make improvements to its wastewater infrastructure.

The city of Belfast recently received a Community Development Block Grant Community Enterprise Grant in the amount of $150,000 for the construction of a segment of the Belfast Harbor Walk that will run through the former Stinson Seafood site, a site currently being developed into the Front Street Shipyard.

Rinck Advertising in Auburn was recently named the advertising and marketing agency of record for Building Solutions, a plan, design and build firm in Oxford.

Accolades

Woodard & Curran, an engineering firm in Portland, recently announced it ranks number 108 among the top 500 on Record’s list of the Top 500 Design Firms. The firm also ranked 76 on the list of “pure design” firms, which includes only companies that derive the majority of their revenue from engineering and design work.

Annick Cadot, a French teacher at Deering High School in Portland, recently received the 2011 Russell Award from the University of Southern Maine.

The Greater Bangor Convention & Visitors Bureau recently presented the Eagle Award for Organizational Achievement to Bangor International Airport for showing resiliency during economic challenges.

Central Maine Moving & Storage in Bangor recently received the customer quality excellence award from NorthAmerican Van Line.
