The Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce has named Shanna Cox as president/CEO, succeeding Rebecca Conrad, who resigned in June.

The selection of Cox, a downtown Lewiston resident and community development consultant, comes after a search that drew over 40 applications, the chamber said Thursday in a news release.

Cox started work Monday at the business advocacy organization, which has more than 1,000 members from the Lewiston-Auburn region and throughout Maine.

Her selection by the chamber’s board of directors was unanimous, according to the board’s chair, Jennifer Hogan, president and CEO of Community Credit Union.

“We are confident in [Cox’s] experience, drive and commitment to the Chamber and community at large. We are excited for her to lead our Chamber in the next steps of its success,” Hogan said in the release.

Cox is the founder and principal consultant of Project Tipping Point, a Lewiston-based firm that provides strategic planning, board development, training and other services for community and economic leaders. Prior to starting the firm in 2016, she served as a health promotion coordinator at Healthy Androscoggin, a nonprofit public health group, where she generated revenue of more than $250,000 in grants and sponsorships over two years.

Her experience also includes working as a community developer with Community Concepts Inc., of Lewiston, and helping to found the city’s Neighborhood Housing League in 2009.

Cox serves on the boards of Androscoggin Head Start, Grow L+A and Maine Equal Justice Partners. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maine.

“There is significant potential and opportunities for the Chamber to clarify our value to members, attract new members, and support growth for current members, all while ensuring our work is connected to the communities we serve,” Cox said in the release. “I am excited to be at the helm of this organization as we lead the way towards a secure future.”

Her predecessor, Conrad, left the post after a two-year tenure that included merging the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council into the chamber, reducing overhead and hosting the Top Gun contest.
