LURC considers two more wind projects

Less than two weeks after the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission approved the Stetson Mountain wind farm, it is scheduled today to consider two more proposals for wind farms.

LURC is scheduled to deliberate on Maine Mountain Power's scaled-back Black Nubble proposal, and TransCanada's Kibby windpower project, both of which would be located in Franklin County, according to the Sun Journal in Lewiston. Together, the projects would generate 186 megawatts -- enough electricity to power 70,000 homes.

LURC Director Catherine Carroll told the paper a vote on the projects is unlikely today, but the commission will probably set a date for a final decision.
