Nearly 100 Maine hospitals and other health care providers will receive an “immediate infusion” of $42 million under the CARES Act to help with their fight against COVID-19, U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Angus King, I-Maine, said Tuesday.

The money is the second tranche of funding from $100 billion allocated to medical providers under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.

The new funding will be used to reimburse providers for health care-related expenses or lost revenue attributable to pandemic and to provide coronavirus testing and treatment for uninsured Mainers, according to a news release.

“This funding is vital to protecting the health and safety of Mainers and will provide critical support to our doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals who are on the frontlines,” Collins and King said in the release.

“We will continue to ensure that all health care providers have the resources they need to continue to respond to this pandemic and treat patients.”
