Maker of log homes considers Ashland expansion

Katahdin Forest Products, a maker of log homes based in Oakfield, may expand its Ashland sawmill, the Bangor Daily News reported Monday.

The expansion depends on whether electricity can be purchased at a favorable rate directly from a ReEnergy biomass plant, the company’s president, David Gordon, told the BDN.

Katahdin Forest Products acquired the sawmill in 2009 and it has invested $200,000 there. The mill has 11 employees. If expansion goes forward, the mill’s workforce could grow to 30 or 35 workers.
