New hires

Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty hired Julie Galvin as a senior vice president in the firm's Portland office, Patti Lawton as a vice president its Brunswick office and Lori Alexander as a vice president in its Camden office.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, hired Lindsay Zahradka as a member of the firm's business restructuring and insolvency practice group. Zahradka was previously an associate with Akin Gump in New York City. The firm also hired Susan Duprey in its real estate and municipal law practice groups. Duprey joined the firm in an of counsel capacity and will work out of the firm's Manchester, N.H., office.

Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston hired Julie Buffington as a vice president and commercial loan officer at its Brunswick branch. Buffington was previously a vice president, business banking relationship manager with KeyBank.

Wireless Partners LLC, a wireless telecommunications firm in Portland, hired Michael Harder as chief financial officer. Harder most recently was with Oxford Networks.

Sevee & Maher Engineers Inc., an engineering consulting firm in Cumberland, hired Jan Wilcox as technical writer, John Higgins as senior wastewater engineer, James Brooks as senior compliance specialist and Jason Eisenhuth as environmental compliance specialist.

Spectrum Medical Group in South Portland hired Erik Goltzer as chief information officer, Claire Beaulieu as director of purchasing and facilities, Heidi Bergeron as human resources director and Laurie Smith as benefits and compensation manager. The organization also announced Greg Morrissette, Nina Morrissette and Lucy Mack joined its anesthesiology division.

SCORE Portland hired Marge Barker as a certified mentor for small business and Richard Miller as a certified mentor for small business in the greater Portland area.

Crisis & Counseling Centers in Augusta hired Emily Brod as director of the organization's Crisis Program. Previously, Brod provided individual and family outpatient mental health therapy through her own private practice in Portland.

The city of Portland hired David MacLean as director of social services. Previously, MacLean was the general assistance program manager for the state of Maine Department of Health & Human Services.

Competitive Energy Services, a strategic energy consulting firm in Portland, hired Casey Galipeau as sales administrator, Allison Willard as marketing associate and Nicky White as pricing associate.

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution hired Jay Tilley as senior vice president, director of operations. Most recently, Tilley worked at Jack Henry & Associates.

Diversified Communications, an international media company in Portland, hired Danielle Philbrook as a project manager, Nicole Copeland as a marketing coordinator and Madelyn Kearns as an associate editor. Philbrook was previously with MEMIC in Portland, Copeland with United Publications in Yarmouth and Kearns with HIMSS Media in Portland.

The Plant Memorial Home, an assisted living facility in Bath, hired Linda MacMillan as director of development and marketing. MacMillan was most recently associate director of development at Mid Coast Health Services in Brunswick.

Coldwell Banker Sandy River Realty in Farmington hired Keri DiMuzio Davis as a sales agent.

Promotions

Portside Real Estate Group in Falmouth promoted Jessica Nason to marketing and operations manager.

The MEMIC Group, a workers' compensation specialist in Portland, promoted Matthew Harmon to senior vice president of claims and Karl Siegfried to senior vice president of loss control and safety services. Harmon was previously vice president of claims and Siegfried was assistant vice president of loss control and safety services.

The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program's board of directors promoted Suzanne Walsh to CEO. Walsh, who began her career with at the program in 1988, was previously chief operating officer.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough promoted Jessica Duffy to clinical services director. Duffy was previously the facility's Gosnell Memorial Hospice House director.

Appointments

Norton Insurance Agency in Cumberland announced that Anna Edgerley, senior vice president, was elected to serve a one-year term as chairwoman of the Maine Insurance Agents Association in Hallowell.

Doug Keith, founder and president of Lincolnshire Financial Advisors in Eliot, was named to the New England Foundation for the Arts board of directors.

Cross Insurance, a subsidiary of Cross Financial Corp. in Bangor, announced that the firm was appointed to The Hanover Insurance Group's President's Club for dedicated service.

Achievements

The Arbor Day Foundation designated the city of Lewiston as a 2014 Tree City USA community.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington recently recognized its top volunteer contributors, including Patricia Kilkenney, Eugene Martineau, Nye Mosher, Trudy Dawson, Bonnie Slater, Francis Slater, Alvin McDonald, Lawrence Wilbur, Brian Hand and Craig Viotto. In addition, 85 volunteers received certificates in recognition of their efforts.

Hampton Inn Lewiston-Auburn recently received Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency received national recognition from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Emergency Management, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response as the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Medical Reserve Corps Housing Organization.

BerryDunn, an accounting and consulting firm in Portland, was recognized as one of the top-20 fastest growing firms in the nation by Accounting Today. The rating reflects the firm's 20% revenue growth compared with the industry average of 8.4%. Overall, the firm ranks as the 68th largest firm in the country, up from 72nd the prior year.

United States Environmental Protection Agency recognized three Maine entities at its 2015 Environmental Merit Awards. Pottle's Transportation in Bangor was a Business, Industry, Trade or Professional winner; Environmental Living and Learning for Maine Students, a collaboration of the Ecology School in Saco, Chewonki Outdoor Classroom in Wiscasset, University of Maine 4-H Center at Bryant Pond and University of Maine 4-H Center at Tanglewood in Lincolnville, was honored in the Environmental, Community, Academia & Nonprofit category; and the University of Southern Maine in Portland was selected as the National WasteWise College/University, Partner of the Year.

Marc Lamontagne was named Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution's A. William Kany Jr. Community Service Award recipient for 2014. Lamontagne, a loan officer at the bank, was recognized for his years of service to several organizations and causes in the community and throughout the state.

SymQuest Group Inc., an information technology company in Westbrook, was ranked northern New England's No. 1 Managed Services Provider by Penton Technology's eighth annual MSPmentor 501 Global Edition, a list and report identifying the world's top managed service providers. The firm ranked 26th worldwide.

Kimberly Edgar, a group benefits account manager at Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden, obtained her license to sell life, health and other group insurance benefits programs in the state of Maine. The firm also announced that Sherree Craig, senior account executive in the insured benefits division, is now certified through the National Association of Health Underwriters' new professional development course on self-funding.

Kate McAleer appeared on the April cover of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council President's Report, a leading third-party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women. McAleer is the founder of Bixby & Co., a handmade chocolate bar manufacturer in Rockland.

University of Maine student Nadir Yildirim won first place at the 2015 UMaine Business Challenge for creating a company that aims to develop eco-friendly, recyclable and reusable products for several industries. Yildirim is a student in the Wood Science and Technology Program in the School of Forest Resources.

Sewall, a consulting firm specializing in energy, infrastructure and natural resources in Old Town, announced that Tinia Graham, senior digital imaging technician, passed the written examination and all other requirements for initial certification as a certified photogrammetrist through the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.

The Radio Television Digital News Association announced WCSH 6/WLBZ 2 journalists Bill Green, Kirk Cratty and Rob Nesbitt were this year's Regional Edward R. Murrow Award winners. Green and Cratty were recognized for feature reporting while Nesbitt won for writing.

Penobscot Community Health Care achieved national accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care identifying the practice as one that provides the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.

The Franklin Community Health Network Spirit Committee announced Larry Labul and Karla Dalessandro, medical/surgery unit; Frank Stone, central supply; and Gene Martineau, Franklin Health Medical Arts Center volunteer greeter were April's EPIC award recipients.

The Maine Immunization Program selected Cassandra Cote Grantham, director of child health at MaineHealth, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Childhood Immunization Champion for Maine.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, was identified as the 11th best law firm for female attorneys, according to the 2015 Glass Ceiling Report by Law360. The firm was also recognized in the report for surpassing the national average for percentage of females in its partnership by 14%.

Dunn Furniture in Houlton was recognized by La-Z-Boy Inc. for outstanding sales performance in 2014 for the northeastern U.S. region.

The Fifty Best, an online guide to fine living, announced that Back River Gin was awarded a Double Gold medal at a gin tasting in New York City. The gin is brewed by Sweetgrass Farm Winery & Distillery in Union.

The Huffington Post and Thrillist named Funtown Splashtown USA in Saco as one of the best amusement parks in the United States.

Juanita Bean Smith and Bradford Smith, agents with Coldwell Banker Sandy River Realty in Farmington, were recognized as the No. 1 team in Maine in 2014 for independently owned and operated affiliated companies.
